A rest is as good as a run

By Lorna Catling

Today is one of my designated ‘rest days’. They are officially my favourite days of the week.

Back on course…

So I got back on the running trail this weekend, quick mile and a half round the block – or so I thought.

Considering I play a lot of football (badly I admit), I found it ridiculously difficult.

Run to the hills

I finally got to the point where I couldn’t find any more excuses. There is no longer any snow for me to slip on and break my neck. The road isn’t flooded. And that isn't the fabled Wokingham wildcat out on the prowl. It’s a man walking his dog.

So, reluctantly, I pulled on my trainers and started running again. I managed two runs last week – a total of about seven miles.

Route of all evil

By Lorna Catling

My new running gear arrived!! I felt amazing when I went out for a run on Saturday and it definitely helped me get back into my training.

Guess who I saw at the M3/Bagshot Road junction..

This isn’t even vaguely related to Bracknell, well unless you count the fact that 10 minutes after spotting this celebrity, I drove through town on my way to Reading.

Anyway, not only is this man a star of the big and small screen, he’s also the booming voice of many radio ad campaigns.

Achey breakey back

By Lorna Catling

My training this week has consisted of just one run and buying a new sports bra and leggings – which I did online so I didn’t even have to walk anywhere to get it.

Don't cry for me...

Seriously, don't cry. Well, do if you want... but it won't help. I'm going on holiday this evening for 16 days and where I'm headed (Argentina, yay!), there's not going to be much opportunity for tempo, easy and speed running specified on my training schedule - click here to see it here.

Motivate my a**e…

Ok, I’ll admit it here and now, I am having serious trouble motivating myself to start training for the Bracknell half-marathon.

I’ll go as far as to say I have not started running training in any shape or form.

It’s Madness…

Driving to work this morning, I was delighted to see a banner outside the Coppid Beech Hotel proclaiming the return of ‘Ultimate Madness’ to the Bier Keller on Friday, March 6.

Ultimate Madness, as you might have gathered, are a Madness tribute band, and after seeing the real thing last year, I could not be more excited!

All quiet on the football front..

Well, I was supposed to be going to see the relegation battle between Bracknell Town and Taunton Town tonight at Larges Lane, but like last Saturday’s trip to Didcot, and last Tuesday’s visit of Gosport Borough, it was off!

But what is going on? I am one of those who is sceptical about the effects of global warming (I had a professor at uni who convinced me it wasn’t all our fault) but I am becoming concerned about the horrific weather conditions we are experiencing at the moment, particularly when it get in the way of the football.

Dancing on ice…

Paths in Bracknell on friday night.

Did anyone else try skating home on Friday night?

I did, unfortunately I was a little worse for wear and at one point almost ended up covered in tasty curry.

Running on empty

So, running at the weekend was a bit of a non-starter partly because of the weather and partly because I gave up and got really drunk instead.

A Dead End

I’ve been training for the marathon for about a month now.

It was all going fairly well up to last week, I was running about three times a week and even eating reasonably healthily.

I've had my chips

Thing is with training for Bracknell half marathon, it takes over your entire life.

But this weekend I voted with my feet and got smashed in the pub on Saturday night.
