I thought things were looking bright when a packet of chocolate Hob Nobs appeared on Wednesday but little did I know things were set to get even better…
On Thursday went out on a limb and made an impulse buy. I’m one of those people who can’t help but buy the things left out near the tills in shops.
I was in Woolworths and as I waited in the queue my gaze began to wander across the array of shiny treats positioned invitingly around the queuing area.
I must be a marketer’s dream because when I’m in those queues I feel like I have to buy something. Perhaps the worst case of this was when I once bought a small bottle of ‘spray candy’ from a corner shop. It was basically really sweet, sticky liquid that you spray into your mouth like glasses cleaner or WD40. It was disgusting.
The chapter of this addiction that has possibly cost me tens of pounds (mercifully the tat placed around the till is usually cheap) had me buying a pot of Mini Oreos for the price of just £1.
What a find they’ve turned out to be. Tiny chocolatey treats keeping me going as I type my way through some riveting press releases.
The second surprise of the week was when one of my colleagues came back to the office with a pack of ‘new’ Fox’s Whipped Creams.
On the box they claim to be: “Buttery shortcake biscuit caressed with cream and sinfully strawberry conserve. Naughty.”
Naughty is accurate - per biscuit they contain 27 per cent of your daily guideline amount of saturated fat.
I couldn’t care less about that though - they are delicious. Like miniature, biscuity Victoria sponges.
If you can find them anywhere I advise you to buy them and then hide them. I only got to eat one of these mini-cakes because my hungry co-newshounds devoured them in mere moments.
