What was it in the river?

Investigation at the River Cut. Or Jocks Lane River if you prefer..Apologies for my tardiness, it has been awhile since I updated my blog!

There has been a wave of man flu, the likes of which has never been seen…

Okay enough of that, but I have been inspired by the recent ‘What is it in the river’ story that ran on getbracknell this week.

I have kick-started the running training again just recently and was out on Tuesday night. Part of my route takes me past the Jocks Lane area, I must have been early because I didn’t see much activity, however my drive to work on Wednesday morning was greeted with sinister looking Police tape and several cars parked on the verge.

I assumed some poor soul had met a grizzly end, and duly reported it to my biscuit blogging chum Mike Pyle.

He duly dispatched a photographer to the scene and I waited patiently for news from the scene of the crime that would surely be worthy of a ‘Touch of Frost’ or ‘Midsummer Murders’ script.

Who would be next? Would Tom Barnaby or Jack Frost be able to un-mask the serial-killer before the next victim met a similarly damp fate up at Watersplash Lane? Or meet an untimely demise in the pool at Bracknell Sport Centre?

No. Apparently the ‘body’ was nothing more than tarpaulin that had been dumped in the River Cut (did anyone know it was called that? It was always ‘Jocks Lane River’ to us as kids).

It was a bit of a relief, in the cold light of day and with sensibility restored, I did wonder why I thought the Mafia might be dumping bodies in carpet in the river. Surely they would go for somewhere a bit deeper? Perhaps they had a deal with a local carpet maker?

I just loved the fact that I believed that my sleepy corner of Bracknell was suddenly the scene of a major investigation. They sent a ‘team’ of divers in. Not just a chap in scuba gear, a team of them!

Brilliant!

Surely, you could have just waded out with your jeans pulled up to your knees?

"poor sole"

check your spelling, Mr. Canning! tut tut.

I saw this story & thought it was brilliant. Coen brothers style heist mystery in bracknell? Nope. just someone using the river as a dumping ground. standard.

I think you'll find that is correct, Tom found a poor sole in the river, it was happily swimming around and then a scuba team turned up.

(I am aware sole are sea fish, it's for the purpose (or porpoise) of, slightly lame comedy.
