Achey breakey back

By Lorna Catling

My training this week has consisted of just one run and buying a new sports bra and leggings – which I did online so I didn’t even have to walk anywhere to get it.

The reason for my lack of training is I have a really sore back which I think started when I did a 5 mile run a couple of weeks ago.

I felt pretty strong on the way round but I noticed after about 3.5 miles my lower back felt like it was dipping in a bit.

I’ve researched (googled) it and I think the problem is I don’t have very strong core muscles, or they are even weaker than the rest of me.

So I am officially suffering from a Sport Related Injury (SRI) and it makes me feel pretty damn good, like I am a proper runner now.

I even had to go to the back pain section of Boots for some Deep Heat pads, I don’t think I’ve ever really been outside the cosmetics area in there before.

However, the lack of training is worrying me so this weekend I will brave the roads again (in my new running kit – yay!) having, hopefully, recovered from my SRI.

No doubt both these things will make me practically professional and I’ll whiz round like Paula Radcliffe on acid…or not.

Has anyone else suffered from back pain after running? If so, please let me know how you dealt with it – did you keep running or rest up?
