New Year's Resolution

As Headteacher of Easthampstead Community School, I thought that I should do something different in 2010 to help draw attention to the work we are doing as a Specialist School for Sport.

I enjoy all sports and have tried to keep fit since giving up competitive sports twenty yeras ago.  However I like a challenge so for several years have completed the swimathon and some short charity runs.

During the snow when I was not able to open the school I received a request for volunteers to run the London Marathon for the Youth Sports Trust.

This organisation support young people in sport both as groups and as individuals.  What a good cause I thought!  Then once I had hit the send button I realised what I had set myself up for.

I may not have mentioned but I really do not like running, especially when I have to spend more than an hour on the road.  I even prefer the treadmill!!! The marathon target for me is around 5 hours or 300 minutes - for me it will be a real trial.

However I have signed up so if I have to walk part of the route it will be a nice view.

My aim is to raise £2000 for the YST and the range of ideas from the students has been considerable especially the Sixth Form. I will list some of these in future blogs.

Training started on Saturday 16 January with a 1500 metre swim and then an hours run. My aim has been to take along run at weekends and try to get one or two hour runs in during the week.

I am managing that so far.  Unfortunately I forgot to eat before the run last weekend and struggled to complete two hours.

A lesson well learnt.
