Cape Town - WOW

We flew into Cape Town earlier on this week and it has been a roller coaster ride ever since we arrived.

As soon as we touched down next to the famous table mountain we knew we were in a special place. Cape Town is a tourist’s paradise, surrounded by mountains, blue seas and white beaches as far as the eye can see.

The contrast between Cape Town and Rustenburg is vast. Rustenburg was a relatively small dry desert like area in the north of South Africa. Cape Town on the other hand is a large city with sprawling suburbs surrounded by some of the most amazing geographical features I have ever seen.

Whilst in Rustenburg we managed to acquire a couple of tickets to Italy Paraguay which meant us going straight to Green Point stadium from the airport and an additional cost of a Paraguay top!

Me as a 'part-time' Paraguay fan outside Green Point Stadium, Cape Town

The match was a bit dull but after a few beers I got talking to a few Paraguayans and with the small bit of Spanish I know managed to convince them I was a genuine South American!

There is so much to do in Cape Town; whale/shark watching, fan festivals, the luxury waterfront area, mountain climbing, the list is endless. I am due to stay out here until just after the world cup final and will try to pack in as much as I can and feed back all my experiences...

Next week I am visiting a different side of the world cup in South Africa, the shantytowns/townships. I am going into the heart of the Masiphumelele Township, just out of Cape Town, which translates to ‘together we grow’, to experience an area of South Africa that could really benefit from what a world cup can bring to the nation.
